PixSync was engaged by OASE Living-Water to photo and video document a water fountain installation on a major bridge in Seoul, Korea following another successful project carried out in Turkey at the Mardan Palace Hotel. Running over the Han River, Banpo bridge has been remodeled into a massive and beautiful fountain with water jets that spray from both sides of the bridge. It is now a major tourist attraction in Seoul. With a string of ballet music, the water streams are accompanied with light shows, reflecting the many different colours of the Rainbow. Hence, the bridge is also known as the Rainbow bridge.

MARDAN PALACE ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RECORD

PixSync Mardan Palace Architectural Photography and Videography

In March 2009, PixSync was deployed to Turkey to carry out a photographic and video record of a newly constructed musical water fountain for the 5-Star Mardan Palace Hotel based in Antalya. The Hotel is a luxury hotel in Lara, built by Azerbaijani billionaire Telman Ismailov. It was opened on 23 May 2009 and attended by Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Sharon Stone, Richard Gere, Monica Bellucci, Seal, Tom Jones and the Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayez. The Hotel built at a cost of US$2 billion dollars is considered as Europe’s and the Mediterranean’s most expensive luxury resort. The hotel has the Mediterranean’s largest swimming pool within which is a sunken aquarium containing 2,400 fishes. The hotel has 560 rooms, a 12,000 sq ft spa, and its own beach containing 9,000 tons of sand imported from Egypt.

Together with a 3 man crew, the team successfully carried out the photography and video assignment over a 5 day period. The team had a number of logistical obstacles to over come. There were a number of bulkier equipments that had to be brought up and prepared for the assignment. These included the video boom lift, rail tracks, gyroscope and supporting photographic equipments (medium format). Security on the premises were tight and factoring that most of the filming had to be carried out in the evenings, it was crucial that all the video and photo equipments were deployed at various strategic vantage points, knowing that there was a wide ground that had to be covered.

IMPORTANT SELECTION CRITERIA FOR A SUCCESSFUL PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT

Photography, like any other custom service, is never a “one size fits all” proposition but rather a matter of finding the right person for the job. In this release, we discuss how to identify prospective photographers and choose the best one for your needs.

The applications that demand the utmost in image quality are Web sites, portfolios, client proposals, competitions, magazine articles, advertising, and display art. What these have in common is the factor of persuasion. You are not merely documenting your work but actively trying to convince other people that yours is the best of its class. Photography goes far beyond the mechanics of focus, exposure, and composition. It requires craft: knowing how to choose lenses and where to aim lights, caring for details of cleanliness and arrangement, understanding what color adjustments will put the most pizzazz on a printed page, making sure the permissions and releases are airtight, and so on. It requires professionalism, ensuring that finished images will be delivered reliably, on time, on budget, and looking better than you expected. Not least, it requires a visual style that presents your work to its best advantage. Here are some suggestions on how to make the experience of photographing your project a good one.

(1) IDENTIFY YOUR NEEDS
Begin the planning for photography by identifying which aspects of your project might best represent your designs. Would you like to highlight any specific concepts pertaining to your specific industry, example Commercial, Industrial, or just some thing personal such as taking a family portrait? Are some areas best avoided? Which areas would illustrate creative problem solving?

Next, consider how you will use the photography as an integrated part of your marketing plan:

• Shown to clients via a Web site, portfolio, or presentation?
• Kept in your archives and used for in-house reference and documentation only?
• Used for internally produced publications?
• Submitted for competitions?

(2) RESEARCH & FIND THE CANDIDATES
There are a number of possible strategies for finding the right photographer for the job. One is to scan the web-site for images that impress you, then find out who made those shots. Other places to look for are in magazines or even coffee-table books that usually credit their photography sources. Of course, your professional colleagues may have a recommendation or two as well. To narrow the field of candidates, you may wish to visit photographers’ Web sites, then request samples of their work or schedule meetings for portfolio presentations. Be aware that Web sites and portfolios often represent only a limited selection of the photographer’s work. Thus, when asking to see portfolios, it is reasonable to request images from assignments of similar scope and type to the project you have in mind.

(3) ASK FOR ESTIMATES
Once you have identified the few photographers who seem to have the experience and skills that you need and a vision that matches your goals, it is time to ask for estimates. You are not looking for a “lowest bidder” at this stage but rather for a confirmation that each candidate fully understands the nature of the assignment. This understanding should encompass your budgetary goals, of course, but also your marketing goals in using the images.

Although photography is a competitive industry, it is not a commodity business; you should expect some variations in the initial proposals you receive. The differences may reflect the photographers’ experience and professional stature but also their different creative approaches and interpretations of your needs. An estimate is not a cut-and-dried document. If it reveals a misunderstanding of your requirements, call the photographer to discuss the matter. The photographer might make suggestions that could yield better results or lower costs. Do not underestimate the value of a photographer’s enthusiasm and experience, as he or she can become an important part of your creative team.

Mercer is the global leader for trusted HR and related financial advice, products and services. In mid 2008, PixSync was engaged to plan, shoot (lifestyle), provide creative layout concept and produce prints on large motivational posters for an internal marketing campaign aimed to bolster inter-departmental relationship within the various Mercer Singapore offices.

A critical aspect to the project was in the conceptualizing of the “Photo Art Direction” for the campaign. After in-depth discussion and interviews with Mercer staff, PixSync was able to produce photos highlighting each individual’s unique character and strength. The lifestyle shots capturing each participant’s expressions, along with office props and appropriate background (colors) helped showcase Mercer’s employees in a positively relaxed and confident mood.

“Eugene and his team have been really helpful. We will keep them in mind for future photo-taking and printing needs,” exclaimed Grace Chun of Mercer.

“PixSync was engaged to photograph about 20 chosen representatives from various departments of Mercer. The focus of the campaign was to foster closer collaboration within the many working teams at Mercer, and also as a means of recognizing the contributions of each individual “Champions”. The project theme (Value Posters) was thus focused on the cultural aspect of the business and the can-do, positive working attitudes of the employees,” said Eugene Choy, Principal Photographer (Partner). “Again, PixSync was presented with a tight dateline and shooting schedule, but with the team’s combined effort and experience with organizing many similar corporate lifestyle shots, we managed to complete the project in good time. Much care was placed in the digitizing process to ensure overall balance in color, levels and curves, including touch up on certain facial features. As a result, the large posters prints (A2 size) were promptly and rapidly delivered to Mercer just in time for display before their Principal’s visit from the United States.”

PixSync was engaged early 2008 to plan, shoot and provide digital layout of a Singaporean skyline as part of Deutsche’s bank “Empowering” campaign. The project was carried out over 3 months with a production schedule that was adhered to tightly. The final 12 meter by 4 meter completed skyline of Singapore, now located at Changi Airport Terminal 3, is one of that reflects Deutsche Bank’s mission and strengths as a leading global investment bank.

“When we took on the project, we understood the scale of work. The initial part to the project involved photography of individual buildings that made up the skyline of Singapore. The photographic team only managed to carry out the photo shoot after extensive survey of shooting locations, deciding which building was to be of main focus. We also had to take note the general direction of sunlight, distance to shooting targets and choice of appropriate lens and shooting equipment in order to make the photo capture process a success. Following this, the images were carefully processed and put together to form the final campaign montage.” said Eugene Choy, Founder of PixSync Photography. “Much digital imaging work had to be carried out to combine all different elements such as the walkway, sea, building and the sky. It was critical to ensure that the image elements making up the skyline remain sharp in its details with any effects of pixilation. Again, we achieved this through close communications beginning from the planning stage, to the time the project was awarded to PixSync and all throughout the advanced imaging process. MAGNATE AUSTRALIAN REAL ESTATE AGENCY LJ HOOKER ORGANIZES IT’S INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN SINGAPORE 

PixSync Successfully Manages Photography Coverage for Australian Mega Conference

LJ Hooker, hosted it international conference from the 6th-9th August for its 600 property agents. PixSync was engaged to provide photography services covering the event which spread over a number of different venues. 

The client needed a suite of solutions which included next day delivery of digitally enhanced photos and hosting of photos on a web-site for their participants to purchase and download. In order to focus on the immediate deliverables, PixSync decided not to charge the participants for the event photos that were downloadable from the web and instead concentrate on the image deliverable processes.

PixSync’s photography team and backend expertise in digital image processing responded rapidly by ensuring that the photos taken for each day were delivered to LJ Hooker’s organizing committee on each of the following morning. Further to this, all event photos were posted on a private server within two days of the conference closing for participant’s download. The speed and quality of service could only be met through a dedicated team and focusing on the immediate project requirements.

“When we took on the assignment, we understood the scale of the project,” said Eugene Choy, Founder of PixSync Photography. “Organizing over a few thousand photos taken for each day requires care in the image preparation process. We achieved this together with LJ Hooker’s organizing committee, ABC Travel through close communications beginning from their query stage, to the time the project was awarded to PixSync and all throughout the seminar event. RAPID RESPONSE & TOTAL TURNKEY PHOTOGRAPHY SUPPORT FOR AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

In early June 2008, Nautilus Minerals contacted PixSync Photography to have some photographs taken of their exploration ship, the Nor Star. The ship was mobilized at Loyang Offshore Supply Base. The plan was to have some photographs taken of her whilst on anchorage and departure, this all within very short notice.

“There were a number of challenges that we had to face. Firstly, the client was based overseas in Australia and we needed to get the full project requirements and vessel intercept arrangements made before providing a comprehensive quotation. We managed this by offering to provide a suit of supporting services in order to make the photography assignments a success,” shares Terran Tang, Principal Photographer of PixSync. “There were a number of objective that we had to fulfill. Firstly, our team had to be on standby for 2 days, subject to weather conditions. Secondly, we had to help put the quotation together by fully understanding the scope of work. Payment from Nautilus Minerals could then be easily facilitated through PixSync overseas banking facilities. The team at PixSync also provided client pickup and drop off from their office premises and coordinated with the chase vessel, a hydrolift provided by NOL for the intercept at sea. The team set off in the early hours of the morning and reached the Yacht Club promptly at 6am. A number of photos were taken of Nor Star and the team returned back within 3 hours. Before noon, the pictures were processed digitally and uploaded to Australia for our client’s immediate press release, within the space of less than 6 hours from the time of project completion”.

PROGRESSIVE DOCUMENTATION FOR A PHARMACEUTICAL PLANT CONSTRUCTION

In February of 2008, PixSync was engaged by Bovis Land Lease, a world’s leader in project management and building construction to document the progressive assembly of its highly intricate pharmaceutical building modules. PixSync was to undertake a progressive photography and video record of the final construction assembly process which involved the laying of the individual pharmaceutical blocks. The site construction was based at Tuas, Singapore.

Over the course of 8 weeks, the team comprising of 3 photographers and 2 videographers was on constant standby and ready to response within a day’s notification. Conditions favorable for a suitable shoot include dry weather conditions and availability of the building modules as they arrived on site for the final assembly process. Shots at all critical stages were documented from multiple view points, angles and at different height points whenever there was an opportunity. Exterior and interior shots of the building were also captured when the assembly process was successfully completed.

“PixSync has the ability to provide, through our many industrial experience, the right people and tools for the job,” said Terran Tang, Co-Founder of PixSync. “Safety of our crew during such deployment is of prime importance. There are many safety hazards and understanding the safety regulations and having proper safety gear is compulsory for deployment to such an Industrial location. This includes head, face, eye, foot and fall protection equipments. PixSync provides its crew members with its own safety equipment on all industrial assignments. Also, the company’s 3 support vehicles ensure that the crew is mobile at all times and we generally can response in less than 1 hour from the time of notification. Together with the project team at Bovis Land Lease, we managed to successfully document the final critical stages of the building process.”

PixSync Photography was engaged by Breamar Seascope to produce a panoramic view of the shipping lane just along the marina coast area. A series of shots were taken from the Singapore Flyer and stitched together to ensure high enough pixel count to reproduce a print of up to 1.2 meters by 0.5 meters. The final article was than mounted on a customized frame with matt board backing.
